Heaven must be a darker place

Heaven must be a darker place today,

For God has sent an angel to me.

Heaven must be a darker place today,

Just so she could brighten my day.

It may be just for a day, a week, or a year,

I'll treasure every moment and savor it.

Yes, heaven is a darker place today!

Because God has sent an angel to light my way.

I wrote this poem from my heart. I was missing my girlfriend when I had to go to work. It came to me the day after she and I spent our first night together.

For the first time in a very long time I wanted to stay home and skip work! For the first time in a very long time, I wanted to get back home.

Luckily it was a light day, we were just moving sand. Thankfully, it didn't take much concentration. I didn't have much concentration for work that day.

The first thing I did, when I got to work, was to call my girlfriend. The most important thing I remember about the phone call was her voice, her smile and the memories it brought to me.

Instead of doing what I needed to do between getting off work early and a meeting I had that evening, I went home. I started putting this poem on paper after I talked with her that morning. I wrote it and edited it in one day. For someone who is not a writer, who has always been scared to write or express his feelings, that is amazing. It has been several days, since then, but I am still amazed that I was able to do such a wonderful thing!

I attempted to type out the poem in a way that she would not see me doing it. I was trying to edit it and get it just right, while trying to watch the clock so I wouldn't miss my meeting. I remember the distraction of her beautiful face while she lay on the couch to give me my privacy. I remember thinking how lucky I was at that time.

It was time to attend this meeting, I felt like I was leaving a part of myself behind. That fifteen minute walk back home that night, seemed to take forever. I thought about the poem and my girlfriend, I wanted to finish editing it so I could give it to her. I tried to think of something to tell her how I really felt. The words that I couldn't get to come out of my mouth.

What I am trying to say,

In my own little shy way,

Is I found that she was a big part of me that I've been missing in my life.

She brightened my whole day, when I heard her voice.

And I miss her every moment we're apart.

And I hoped she, somehow, felt the same way about me.

I can still see her there. I wish she were right here, where I could wrap my arms around her.

I've never had a person make me feel that way,

And she burns up my phone battery, each and every day!

I can't help that it comes out in poetry,

That is just the way it comes to me!

I can't wait to have her back in my arms,

I never knew there was such love that would ever come my way!
